BrokerAge Division – Casualty Insurance

The Brokerage Casualty Division at Max Specialty is designed to provide a significant degree of appetite for risks that are outside the appetite of our Casualty Contract Binding Division. The Brokerage Casualty team is dedicated to providing you with a first class underwriting facility for your primary GL and excess liability needs. We write strictly on a non-admitted basis through selectively appointed wholesale agents and brokers throughout the US. Our underwriting philosophy is one of creativity and flexibility, and our underwriters are committed to offering various alternatives to unique excess and surplus lines issues. By providing industry-best service and responsiveness to your needs, we strive to build and maintain long-lasting, mutually beneficial relationships with our producers. Initially, our operations are located strictly in Virginia, but we envision placing underwriting talent in other geographic locations where Max Specialty currently has regional offices.

Recognizing that we are an excess and surplus lines facility, we are committed to working with you to determine appropriate combinations of pricing, attachment points, and terms & conditions to address the wide spectrum of issues in the marketplace.

For excess liability, we will freely write excess of Max Specialty primary GL (and pay an extra point of commission), as well as primary GL written by other companies, subject to a minimum A.M. Best rating of A minus VII or better.

Underwriting Approach / Preferred Classes of Business

Our approach can best be described as one of “class marketing / individual risk underwriting” in that we have found ourselves to be most successful thus far on the following eight segments of the excess and surplus lines marketplace. A significant portion of our book of business is concentrated in these areas. This is not to say that we would not be willing to look at something outside these eight segments; we certainly would on an exception basis.
